That was awesome! (And thanks for posting the streaming version -- I've found out my laptop has decided not to play vids anymore, and I'm still trying to figure out what's wrong.) I love the song, and it really reminds me of how good that series was.
1st-Mar-2010 08:49 pm (UTC)
Yay, glad you like it! That is really annoying re: laptop, bah, I hope you find out the problem. I'm so glad the streaming works! It is kind of annoying to set up, but it is perfect for this kind of situation or for just quickly checking out a vid.

I love you.

And I need to see this series. Like, NOW.

This was great! The smooth editing and the song = brilliant (I really love 'Read My Mind', and since this is the second Holmes vid made to it that I've seen, I've began to think of it as a Holmes song, and the lyrics do fit, don't they?) I really liked the atmosphere of the vid, too. And Holmes's expressions! 8D And and.

Thank you for posting this, it was fantastic. ^_^

*beams at you* Yay, thanks so much for your kind words! I'm so glad this worked for you, especially since you've already seen another vid for this song, which can sometimes be a handicap. (I know there's one on YouTube, at least, though I have carefully avoided it lest it prove distracting. *g*)

And I'm so glad this makes you want to see the series! I can't recommend it highly enough; both actors for Watson are wonderful, the writing is terrific, there's a tremendous amount of attention paid to proper Victorian set dressing and atmosphere, and Jeremy Brett...well, he's the most riveting Sherlock Holmes I've ever seen.
1st-Mar-2010 10:51 pm (UTC)
This is fantastic! I especially love how you've captured Holmes' flamboyance, and all his many, many facial expression. And poor Watson's endless patience. ♥
1st-Mar-2010 11:13 pm (UTC)
Awww, your icon! And I'm so glad to hear this, because Holmes' unbelievable and, as you say, flamboyant range of physical motion and facial expression are some of my faaaavourite things in the series. And Watson deals with all his moods so patiently and steadfastly. ♥!

Ah, this was beautiful! Thank you for making and sharing it :)
2nd-Mar-2010 07:48 am (UTC)
And thank you for coming by and saying so! *beams*
2nd-Mar-2010 12:32 am (UTC)
that is beautiful and if you don't mind my saying so you seem to have a talent for vids. do you have a youtube account?
2nd-Mar-2010 07:55 am (UTC)
Thank you so much! No, I don't want my vids on YouTube, but I have a website with download versions of my vids, and streaming versions on BlipTV.
2nd-Mar-2010 12:37 am (UTC)
yay! that was so so awesome - i love it, ♥
it's sweet & quirky and just, idk, adorable! there's so much shiny bouncyness in this, it really makes me wanna track down those few episodes i haven't seen yet :)

(it's really funny that you used this song though - the only other granada-vid i loved so far uses exactly the same! it's like the holmes theme song or something :P now someone just needs to vid it with the new movie)
2nd-Mar-2010 07:58 am (UTC)
Aww, thanks so much for the kind words! And I know what you mean about the song -- I learned halfway through making this that there was at least one other vid out there with the same fandom/same song, and I flailed a bit but then decided to keep going. It would be fun if it turned into the Holmes theme song though! I could totally get behind that. I bet someone will vid it for the new movie eventually, too. :-)

Oh, this is so lovely. It's a flawless encapsulation of both the series and the Holmes/Watson relationship. The range of emotion and expresses you capture! Perfect. I'm sitting here with a big stupid grin on my face. Wonderful work.
2nd-Mar-2010 07:59 am (UTC)
Aww, that is really lovely feedback. You got everything from the vid that I would hope for. Thanks so much!
2nd-Mar-2010 03:02 am (UTC)
This is just PERFECT! I have been having the crappiest week and you've just put the first smile on my face in literally days <3 Jeremy Brett's Holmes' loving looks at Watson have always gone straight through my heart like a lovely knife of squee. I will never hear this song again without thinking of your video. My love of this song has increased 10 fold :D Thank you so much for posting this, so much love (and incoherence).
2nd-Mar-2010 03:20 am (UTC)
Oh I forgot to say- My favourite bit: The little twirl he gives in Silver Blaze that fits So perfectly with the tune!
2nd-Mar-2010 08:02 am (UTC)
Thanks for a wonderful vid and for introducing me to a group that seems worth checking. Now that hasn't happened in a while.
2nd-Mar-2010 08:11 am (UTC)
You're very welcome on both counts! *g* Thanks so much for telling me.
2nd-Mar-2010 09:22 am (UTC)
Wow, that's very good! *downloading* The editing and the song fit perfectly, great job! <3
2nd-Mar-2010 09:46 am (UTC)
Thanks so much! I had a lot of fun making this, and I'm glad it works for you. :-)
2nd-Mar-2010 05:34 pm (UTC)
Sweet! I'm impressed at how well you made this *move* -- that's some agile cutting, there.

Lovely balance between their work and their relationship, too. I'll bet this did great at Escapade.
2nd-Mar-2010 05:50 pm (UTC)
Thank you! Re: movement, of course I did try my best to make the cuts work, but I also think it helps a lot to have Jeremy Brett as Holmes, who just moves fluidly and dramatically in every frame (or languishes dramatically, or stares dramatically...you get the picture. *g*)

I'll bet this did great at Escapade.

Aw, thanks, I hope so! It's always kind of nervewracking sending vids to a con and hoping for a good reception.
2nd-Mar-2010 10:53 pm (UTC)
I've never wanted to watch the Granada series before now but you've sold me, it looks like so much fun:D
3rd-Mar-2010 02:41 pm (UTC)
\o/! I really recommend the series highly, and I hope you enjoy it when you get a chance to watch. :-)
2nd-Mar-2010 10:59 pm (UTC)
Oh, I absolutely loved this! The cutting is fantastic and really brings out the quirkiness of Brett's performance.
3rd-Mar-2010 02:56 pm (UTC)
Awww, thanks very much, I'm so glad this worked for you!
3rd-Mar-2010 02:32 am (UTC)
Oh, wow. This was absolutely brilliant. It captures pretty much everything that I love about the Granada series.
3rd-Mar-2010 03:02 pm (UTC)
*beams* Thank you, that is so good to hear! I just love this series so much, it's my favorite comfort viewing, and I'm glad that comes across.

Sometimes I wish I could vid the BBC radio series too, but that seems a little tricky. *g*
3rd-Mar-2010 11:52 pm (UTC)
That was great,The Killers and the best Sherlock Holmes all in one.
4th-Mar-2010 06:59 am (UTC)
Thank you, I'm so glad that you enjoyed it!
5th-Mar-2010 12:51 pm (UTC)
I've never seen the show but you make it look wonderful!
5th-Mar-2010 03:23 pm (UTC)
Awww, yay, that is good to hear! And I promise you it really is wonderful, it's not me making the best of a deeply crap show or anything. :-)

I adore Jeremy Brett as Holmes, who is fantastic, but the writing, the sets and other actors are also excellent. I'm particularly fond of Edward Hardwicke as the elder Watson.
5th-Mar-2010 03:24 pm (UTC)
ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. :D Aww, this just beautifully captures everything I love about them, and that series is my all-time favorite adaptation.
5th-Mar-2010 03:32 pm (UTC)
Aww, YAY! Thank you, that put a big smile on my face. I'm so glad this worked for you as a fellow fan of the series.
6th-Mar-2010 01:11 am (UTC)
Aw, they're so sweet. That little half smile at the end was the sweetest.
6th-Mar-2010 08:49 pm (UTC)
Awww, yes! I love that little smile too. They are just so much in tune in that shot.
6th-Mar-2010 02:56 am (UTC)
Ooh, I really loved that. The bit with the hoof was for some reason really striking, the way you timed it. Great rhythm in the editing in general. It seemed like they were dancing to the music the whole time.
6th-Mar-2010 08:53 pm (UTC)
Thank you so much! I love that you picked out a specific moment that worked for you, not least because that sequence (with the hoof and Holmes running, etc) is a busy one, that I was a bit worried about. So that's a lovely thing to hear, and so is this:

It seemed like they were dancing to the music the whole time.

which just made me smile like a loon. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
7th-Mar-2010 03:17 am (UTC)
I haven't been into Sherlock Holmes for awhile, but your vid really reminded me why I used to be. You did an excellent job! The song was a perfect choice.

I think my sister is getting into Sherlock Holmes because of the recent movie. I'm going to show her this vid and see what she thinks. Maybe she'll have something to watch while she waits for the next movie. :)
7th-Mar-2010 03:03 pm (UTC)
*beams* Thank you! I'm glad the vid brought back the good fannish memories, and I hope your sister will be intrigued and want to see more.
7th-Mar-2010 11:15 am (UTC)
Wow, this vid is amazing and makes me want to rewatch the Granada series immediately! In fact, I may have already started... XD

Strangely, I can't seem to get any of the download links to work. I noticed no one else had commented on it so I waited a day and tried again, but no luck.
7th-Mar-2010 03:01 pm (UTC)
Yayyy, thanks for the kind words! I love hearing that you already started rewatching. \o/

Re: downloads, I am very sorry -- it's a server problem at Squidge, where my site is hosted. I hoped it would be solved by now, but no. I'll throw up some Mediafire download links for you and everyone who'd like to download.
7th-Mar-2010 09:55 pm (UTC)
Hello! I DL'd this a while back but got emboldened to comment by tearful_eye's rec today. This is such a wonderful portrayal of the classic Holmes/Watson relationship, which was both serious and comic in turns, and that's really how you vidded them. I love how the cuts jump around so playfully but at certain points really bring everything into focus (like the "subtle kiss" at 1.20; the horse's hoof at 1.27; "the loaded gun" at 2.13; and the "world unseen" at 2.20)

Really, really fun vid to watch.
8th-Mar-2010 02:50 pm (UTC)
Thanks so much for commenting! And with such great feedback, too -- I love hearing about specific moments/timing that worked for you, and I'm glad it worked as a portrayal of who they are together. I do adore the dynamic between Holmes and Watson, the way they balance each other out, and how sometimes their adventures are extremely gothic and grim (like in Devil's Foot) and sometimes just ridiculous (like in the Red-Headed League).
8th-Mar-2010 06:29 am (UTC)
I enjoyed this *so* much! Between the wonderful relationship you've portrayed and the beautifully dynamic editing, it's just completely irresistible. :D
8th-Mar-2010 02:51 pm (UTC)
*beams* Thank you! That is a terrific compliment, and I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
9th-Mar-2010 05:27 am (UTC)
Full disclosure: I really dislike The Killers, and this song, but feochadn told me to be patient, and I'm glad I was. As usual, two things that shouldn't have worked together were taken into your capable hands, and a wonderful final product was created. This is really an amazingly well-edited relationship vid that shows all the ups and downs of Holmes & Watson's lives together. Great work.
9th-Mar-2010 08:14 am (UTC)
Thank you so much for your kind words! I knew the song choice could be a problem, and I'm so glad to hear that the vid worked for you in spite of that. That's just the best thing that could happen in such a case, for the vid to overcome the song, as it were.

(I do like the Killers, but I had issues myself with such an American, anachronistic song for this fandom. And yet I kept replaying the song and thinking of ways to make it work, and the emo stylings seemed to fit Holmes and his dramatics, and then I was completely gone and it had to be done. :-)
